VCL Stands Out in the ICMCIS 2021 Drone Detection Challenge

The International Conference on Military Communication and Information Systems (ICMCIS) organized by NATO Communications and Information Agency announced a data challenge asking participants to track, classify and identify Class I UAS as they fly within a defined area, from data provided by the available sensors.

The drones had to be tracked, to show their location and velocity, classified to indicate their object type (e.g. drone, bird) and identified to indicate their UAS type (e.g. DJI Mavic Pro). Datasets covering a range of flying scenarios, sensor types and drones became available on Kaggle.

The submission of VCL team members Paschalina Medentzidou, Dimitrios Zarpalas and Anastasios Dimou achieved the lowest mean error score among the participants and their results were presented in a special session of ICMCIS 2021. More details about the competition, the available dataset and the evaluation process can be found here.

Visual Computing Lab

The focus of the Visual Computing Laboratory is to develop new algorithms and architectures for applications in the areas of 3D processing, image/video processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, bioinformatics and medical imaging.
