Dr. Anastasios Dimou

Dr Anastasios Dimou is a Researcher in the Visual Computing Lab (VCL) at the Information Technologies Institute (ITI) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). He received the Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineer from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece, the Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) in Information and Communication Technology from the Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e), the Netherlands, and the PhD degree on image processing for surveillance applications from the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain.

Dr Dimou has significant work on multiple research domains covering computer vision, safety and security applications, remote sensing, video coding and bioinformatics. He has significant expertise in Deep Learning techniques in the fields above. The legal, ethical and privacy extensions of applications are of special interest to him. His work has led to the co-authoring of more than 40 publications in refereed international journals and conferences, including 8 journals, 32 conferences and 2 book chapters. He regularly acts as a reviewer for multiple conferences and journals in his domain.

Dr Dimou's responsibilities in VCL include project management, proposal preparation and R&D activities. He has been involved in 13 EU research projects undertaking significant roles. Among them, he has been Deputy Coordinator of FASTER (H2020 - Running), Quality Manager in GRACE (H2020 - Running), Technical Coordinator in ANITA (H2020 - Running), SURVANT (H2020-FTI), ADVISE (FP7), Scientific Advisor in ALADDIN (H2020 - Running), and Researcher in LASIE (FP7), ASSETS (CIP), 3D-VIVANT (FP7), GLOCAL (FP7), WEKNOWIT (FP7), VIDI-VIDEO (FP6), BOEMIE (FP6).
