Maria Sapounaki received her BSc in Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics from the University of Thessaly, Greece, in 2019. She holds dual MSc degrees in Informatics and Computational Biomedicine from the University of Thessaly, Greece (2021), and in Biomedical Technologies from the University of Tuebingen, Germany (2023). Currently, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics at the University of Thessaly.
Before joining the Visual Computing Lab (VCL) at the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) in November 2024, she gained valuable research experience at the Intelligent Systems Laboratory (University of Thessaly), the Motor Control Modeling Laboratory and Deep Brain Stimulation Laboratory (Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research, Tuebingen, Germany), and the Institute of Computer Engineering (ZITI, Heidelberg University, Germany).
Her research interests lie primarily in machine learning, spiking neural networks, and their biomedical applications.
